The most chaotic, wisest person I know
Not a business post today, this one's personal. Bear with me. 🙏
This is a link to my nephew Coe's Instagram page, and honestly I just need to tell you a bit about this kid because he deserves it.
Coe is literally one of a kind. I've never met anyone quite like him in my life. On one hand you kind of want to throttle him, he can come across as the most disorganised, scatter-brained human being on the planet, especially if you've ever had the pleasure of working with him 😂. But then on the other hand, this kid is wise beyond his years in a way that genuinely stops you in your tracks. You find yourself thinking: shit, I have sooooo much to learn from this person.
Anyway. A couple of years ago Coe finished school and, exactly like he'd always said he was going to do, he booked a one-way ticket overseas. No real money in his account, barely a pair of shoes on his feet, and absolutely zero hesitation. Off he went. To Ukraine of all places. There he ended up working in what sounded like pretty close to slave-labour conditions at a sanctuary for endangered Carpathian water buffalo. Only Coe.
A year later, many good yarns under his belt, he finds himself working at an animal sanctuary in Morocco. And it's there that he falls in love with a little street dog he named "Little."
Now Coe, in his infinite wisdom, decides he has to get this dog out of Morocco and all the way to Switzerland to be adopted. Why Switzerland? "Because it looked like a place that would be nice for dogs." Of course it did, mate.
So the next obvious question, what's the best way to get a dog to Switzerland when you're a penniless backpacker with basically nothing to your name? Well, you walk there, obviously. Overland. With the dog. And your old leather suitcase, which also happens to be the main prop in his one-man show busking performance. Naturally.
And that's exactly what he's doing.
Coe has this incredible way of just walking, literally, through the world and only ever seeing the good in people and in situations. And because of that, doors just seem to open for him wherever he goes. Amazing people keep showing up. Amazing experiences keep happening. It's kind of magic to watch from the outside.
But here's the main reason I'm actually posting this, and it's pure Coe that he's turned this whole wild adventure into something bigger than himself.
During this year-long walk, he's raising money to build a well in a village that doesn't have access to safe drinking water. He's pledged to raise $12,000 USD to fund one well. That's the mission. That's what this is all about.
His videos, which he posts pretty regularly on Instagram, are often completely chaotic, always hilarious, and somehow deeply moving at the same time. They document his progress along the way and honestly they're worth following just for the entertainment value alone, let alone the cause behind it.
